During the presidential election of 2022, with candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump fighting to be the face of the United States, a call to the nation was necessary. January 6th was designed to grab voter's attention and be a warning sign. On January 6th, 2021, our nation was never the same. This poster showcases how devastating that day was and how the viewer’s voice can impact our nation’s future.

The design process of January 6th consisted of multiple levels of research. Understanding the power of imagery, colors, and a bold Sans Serif typeface. The imagery shown was the battle of rioters pushing their way to the United States Capitol. Using a Bitmap effect allows the viewer to read between the lines of the image and ask questions about their values. The colors displayed were chosen to represent the United States flag. The muted level of these colors gives the poster a sense of defeat- a defeat within our country towards each other. Using a heavy-weight Sans Serif typeface shows the importance of the series of words, “Is this the voice you want?” It allows the viewer to answer again questions about how they see their nation in the future.
January 6th won Honorable Mention at the Annual Juried Show at York College of PA in 2023. Jurors were Adrienne Elise Tarver, Director of Programs at the National Academy of Design, and Tasheka Arceneaux-Sutton, Associate Professor of Graphic Design and Creative Technologies and a faculty member in the M.F.A. program in Graphic Design at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
